Ibis Heart
She cast her saffron sighs aside
Ebony curve of her back
Caressed by the summer air
Burning smokey in the Sun
She
The lone traveller
On this trail of the Heart
Knarled feet greats sharpen rocks of desire
Bloody roses weep
For her lover’s breathe
Is a hot knife in her chest
These aches and pains are welcomed
For hands ache
From the harsh stuble of her lover’s cheek
Arms lay limp and lifeless
Buffering the broadness
Of her lover’s back
Hips and legs cleave
Forgetting the welcome ride
‘Round her lover’s hips
For he has forgotten her
No memories of questioning looks
“He never asked.”
Yet wondered if she knew
Knew the circumference of his heart
As it beat steadily in his chest
For her!
Knew of his ibis thoughts
Steadily flying westward to her Sunset
Eclipsed scarlet
Knew of his never wandering eyes
Circled iris of true blue
Knew of his lament for her
When eyes are closed and sleep is near
“For who is to know the dance of teeth and tongue
If her heart is the only music
And he never asked her to dance”
